Tips for the First Week
Most Importantly
- Make sure to make a vet appointment two weeks prior to pick up. All puppies need to have a wellness visit 3 days after pick-up.
- Puppies are currently eating Diamond Large Breed Lamb & Rice.
- Adult dogs are fed Diamond Large Breed Chicken & Rice.
- Important: The first week in your home is just like having a newborn baby. Do not add anything new to their diet—no new foods or treats.
- Be patient: it is normal for a puppy not to eat right away, especially the first night in their new home.
- Supplemental feeding options (for later use, if needed):
- Victor Lamb & Rice / Chicken & Rice (canned)
- Blue Buffalo Beef & Chicken Grill
- Puzzle Toys & Slow Feeders: Great for mental stimulation and slowing down eager eaters.
- KONG Toys: Perfect for stuffing with kibble or puppy-safe fillings to keep your puppy occupied.
- Stuffed Animal Toys: Comforting for new puppies, but do not leave them in the crate without supervision.
- Chews: Safe chew toys are recommended to support teething and prevent destructive chewing.
- Pee Pads: If using, supervise closely—puppies often pull them up or chew on them when left alone.
Crate
- Crate training is highly recommended: it provides a safe space for your puppy and helps with early potty training.
- Preferred crate size: 36” Frisco Brand with divider
- Fits through standard doorways
- Divider allows you to adjust space as your puppy grows
- Alternative: 42” crate offers more room but may require disassembly to move through doors
- Tip: Puppies typically avoid soiling where they sleep. A properly sized crate encourages this habit from the start.
